in an International Peace Conference initiated by European Parliament members which will be held in Brussels.
Tomorrow (6/12/06) a GLP delegation will travel to Brussels to participate in an International Peace Conference organized by the Alliance of Liberal-Democrats of Europe. The GLP was invited by the Transnational Radical Party (TRP) in order to represent the Liberal-Democratic camp in Israel. The TRP is represented by 30 members in the European Parliament and dozens of parliament members from various European states.
Advancing Israel's potential EU membership as a means to promote peace in the Middle East is one of the main subjects of the conference. As part of its efforts to promote peace, the GLP joyfully welcomes the initiative for Israel's EU membership and is open to cooperation and dialogue with political parties and organizations who share similar views on promoting environmental, individual and human rights and other issues.
GLP Chairman Ohad Shem-Tov received a briefing yesterday at the Israeli Foreign Ministry regarding the official Israeli position on the subject, so that the GLP might be able to responsibly influence future policy.
During the conference, the GLP will present its position on the issues discussed and will raise additional programs for discussion, such as adding Israel to " ERASMUS", the European Student Network, thereby enabling every Israeli student to study for free in Europe for one year while receiving an additional stipend. In addition, the Green Leaf Party will promote the " Peace Canal" initiative, a peace pipe which will carry water from Turkey to Israel and Syria, thereby solving the regional water scarcity by creating an equal and just distribution of water resources in the Middle East , and the potential European assistance in implementing the plan.
Members of the delegation are available for interview:
